AI assistance

Where could interpretation or drafting help, and how will someone judge the output?

What it is

AI assistance is a way of using a model to support a person’s work: summarizing a document, proposing an explanation, comparing alternatives or preparing a draft. The person remains actively involved in deciding what to accept and what to do next.

Why it can add value

It may make varied information easier to examine or give imagination a starting point. In onboarding, it could prepare a document summary with references for a reviewer. Whether that helps depends on omissions, errors, review effort and the decision the summary supports.

When it fits

  • Interpreting or producing information is a real part of the constraint.
  • Relevant source material can be used appropriately.
  • A reviewer has the context, time and ability to check the result.
  • There is a useful way to compare the assisted work with the current approach.

What to watch

A convincing response can still be wrong. Review must have a practical method: source comparison, checks for missing information and escalation when the evidence is insufficient. A review step that nobody has time to perform does not provide the intended control.

The operating-model connection

Specify who maintains the knowledge, who checks the output and who owns the resulting decision. Evaluate the complete work, including corrections and downstream effects. NIST AI Risk Management Framework Core provides a broader basis for context-sensitive evaluation and ongoing management.

A useful next question

What would make this output good enough for its next use, and how would the reviewer know? Apply the question in the onboarding exercise.
